Tim Clarkson
Tim Clarkson is a saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and researcher who has performed with diverse world-class artists in Australia, USA, Canada and Cuba. He has performed with George Benson, The Temptations, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Elio Villafranca, and blues artists Russell Jackson, Chris Kleeman, and Bob Stannard (B.B. King). In Australia he tours nationally with multi-ARIA award winning folk-jazz MARA! Band and with the Greasy Chicken Orchestra and has led the Tim Clarkson Trio since 2007.
Tim completed a PhD in jazz music theory in 2025 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney. His research develops music theory animations to unpack the technical and interactive complexity of “outside” playing in 1960s jazz, published in part by Vernon Press. Tim joined the Elder Conservatorium staff as Senior Lecturer in Jazz from July 2025 teaching saxophone and woodwinds, theory, aural, and research skills, and holds two committee positions for the Musicological Society of Australia.
